Well, the votes are in! It was an incredible night, with dozens of fantastic books getting awards. I’m thrilled to announce all three of my entries — Blowing It, Balls Up, and The Slave — were all finalists. BI and BU got two honourable mentions each, The Slave got three. This is something of a confession. The last few months have been a bit of a mess for me. Visa stuff and family stuff and medical stuff, none of it very serious but all of it distracting, and my brain’s been turned to mush. I haven’t written much of anything since I finished Balls Up. I’ve got the sequel, Bottoms Up, all plotted out, but I’ve only got 15k written and it’s become increasingly clear in the past weeks that it isn’t right. There’s something missing and I can’t put my finger on what, but right now the book is sub-par. I’ve tried powering through but until I know what the problem is, I can’t fix it. So I’ve decided to pull up my big girl pants and made the difficult decision to shelve the book for the time being. (more…)
When I published Balls Up exactly one month ago today, I pledged 10% of the first three months’ profits to Orchid, a UK-based male-specific cancer charity. That figure currently stands at a little over £200 ($310US). There’s still two months to go, and I’m hoping to give a whole lot more before the end! (more…)

Two years ago today, I left my day job for the last time. I’d been published just shy of two years by that point (my first book, Blood & Ash, was released on 26th June 2011), I had a #1 LGBT title under my belt (What He Wants), and I was feeling frustrated enough with my job brave enough to take the plunge. Owen Barnes’s life is finally going the way he wants. He’s making a living as an author, and his relationship with building surveyor Magnus Cassidy is going from strength to strength.
When Owen finds a lump, he buries his head in the sand. He’s too busy for doctor appointments and besides, it’s probably nothing.
