Happy New Year!

BlowingIt_400x600-204x300 Happy New Year!Yes, I was a bad blogger in December. I’m working furiously on the Blowing It prequel which is coming out this month (Jan 2016). Title and cover coming soon!

2015 was an incredible year. Not only did I emigrate from the UK to the US and get married, I completed my Puddledown Mysteries trilogy with The Poison Pen in April, and started a new series with Blowing It and its sequel, Balls Up. I have big plans for that world in the forthcoming year. The first prequel, told from Ryan’s POV, will be released in January, with a second and third book to follow. The third book from Owen’s POV is also in the works, and after that I have something in mind for Shane and Kieran, and maybe another character you haven’t been introduced to yet. Each new POV will be based on a different couple, and will read as a stand-alone series in the Blowing It universe. Owen Barnes never expected writing to make him rich, much less with a YA novel written for a bet. Being nominated for the Carnegie Medal, the most prestigious award a children’s author can win, is a dream come true. But Owen’s newfound fame comes at a price, and not just changing his surname to Black.

Gruff, gentle building surveyor Magnus Cassidy is the first man to catch Owen’s interest in almost two years. Owen’s agent, Max, might be trying to control his image, but Magnus sees the real Owen: the eyeliner, drainpipe jeans, and sexy underwear, not the Young Conservative in a tweed jacket Max is turning him into.

When a photo of Owen and Magnus appears online, just weeks before the Carnegie ceremony, Max starts damage limitation. Out and proud since he was fourteen, Owen isn’t going back into the closet without a fight, and he refuses to let his agent erase Magnus from his life. Encouraged by his friends, Owen lashes out, not realising his behaviour could hurt the man he’s doing it all for. Can Owen find a way to reconcile his public and private lives, or has he already blown it?

Contents: passive tops and slutty bottoms, bitchy best friends, bad jokes, sexy underwear, an excess of beards, and a smattering of angst. May contain nuts.

✭✩✭✩✭Praise for Blowing It✭✩✭✩✭:

This book had me smiling, laughing and crying.

I laughed, smiled and enjoyed myself thoroughly.

You can’t go wrong with a Kate Aaron book, pick this one up and be ready to enjoy.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read so far in 2015!

Kate Aaron spins a web with her words and getting caught in it is a pure pleasure.

Bumps In The Road

a-bump-in-the-road-1519580-201x300 Bumps In The RoadThis is something of a confession. The last few months have been a bit of a mess for me. Visa stuff and family stuff and medical stuff, none of it very serious but all of it distracting, and my brain’s been turned to mush. I haven’t written much of anything since I finished Balls Up. I’ve got the sequel, Bottoms Up, all plotted out, but I’ve only got 15k written and it’s become increasingly clear in the past weeks that it isn’t right. There’s something missing and I can’t put my finger on what, but right now the book is sub-par. I’ve tried powering through but until I know what the problem is, I can’t fix it. So I’ve decided to pull up my big girl pants and made the difficult decision to shelve the book for the time being. Continue reading →

Balls Up Charity Donation Update

When I published Balls Up exactly one month ago today, I pledged 10% of the first three months’ profits to Orchid, a UK-based male-specific cancer charity. That figure currently stands at a little over £200 ($310US). There’s still two months to go, and I’m hoping to give a whole lot more before the end!

Party Time — My Second Anniversary #Prizes

Two years ago today, I left my day job for the last time. I’d been published just shy of two years by that point (my first book, Blood & Ash, was released on 26th June 2011), I had a #1 LGBT title under my belt (What He Wants), and I was feeling frustrated enough with my job brave enough to take the plunge.
